In Greek mythology, Baubo is a mysterious female figure associated with laughter, fertility, and renewal. According to the myth, when the goddess Demeter was overwhelmed by grief after the loss of her daughter Persephone, Baubo succeeded in making her laugh again, helping to restore balance and life to the world.
Ancient sources describe Baubo using humor, gestures, and the female body itself as a source of power and transformation. Rather than being viewed as shameful, female sexuality could be understood as a force connected to vitality, protection, and regeneration.
